The health sector has become a sector whose importance is increasing day by day. The development of the health status of societies is closely related to the health services provided in the sector. Health service delivery is carried out with a team service approach in which many field experts, including personnel providing diagnosis and treatment services, health managers and other administrative and technical personnel, work. In this service delivery, health managers play an active role in the planning, coordination, supervision and development stages of the service. Health management is not a simple adaptation of general business principles and theories to health services or health institutions. On the contrary, it should be evaluated as a re-definition and creative re-definition of general business principles and theories. For this reason, Health Management departments established in Higher Education Institutions in Turkey for the purpose of training health managers carry out education and training activities.

History

Health Institution Management is a scientific field with a history and depth of 105 years in the world and 58 years in Turkey with approximately 500 undergraduate and graduate education programs. The field of science is a special and original basic field in Turkey, parallel to scientific developments in the world, where scientific knowledge is accumulated, academics are trained, and regular journals and books are published. The opening of educational programs stemmed from the need for professional management in the health system and health institutions, and the quantity and quality of original research conducted has revealed the need for this field to be an independent branch of science. In Turkey, undergraduate programs are still operating under the common name of health management, associate degree programs under the name of health institutions management, and graduate programs under the names of health institutions management/management, health management, and hospital management.
